Conant and Storrow Films

Price: $20.00

Description

This historic DVD contains some of the earliest known films of Morris and English Country dancing in the United States. Belonging to the Conant family, the films were salvaged and transferred to video by Brad Sayler and have now been digitized by Mitch Diamond for all to enjoy. The DVD features Cecil Sharp's 1927 and '29 demo teams performing morris and country dances at the MA Agricultural College in Amherst and at Helen Storrow's Lincoln home, as well as historic footage from Pinewoods Camp: dance demos, Scouts dancing and playing, the Pinewoods Morris Men touring camp in 1964 (their formative year), and more. The footage is silent, but followed by complete audio clips played by original dance musicians Elsie Avril (violin) and Everal De Jersey (piano). The English dancing style shows the characteristic body lean and springy step that has all but disappeared today.

Total running time: 70 mins.
