What it Covers
What It Covers
This is a general liability policy. It is not accident insurance. Liability insurance covers you in the event you are sued and is sometimes required by venues.
This policy provides liability coverage in the amount of $1,000,000 per occurrence, with an aggregate limit of $3,000,000 per caller, per event. It protects you, the caller, for any acts, or omissions of acts, that result in bodily injury or property damage while you are calling dances or related activities. ("Related activities" include regular dances, workshops, and classes.)
This insurance is for callers only, not groups. The policy does NOT cover dancers, musicians or your equipment. We do also offer Group Liability Insurance to our affiliated groups in the US.
How it Works
How It Works
Here's how the program works:
- Insurance coverage is May 1, 2021 through April 30, 2022; applications are accepted after May 1, but rates are not prorated - the premium remains the same throughout the year. All coverage ends on April 30.
- Please allow 2 weeks for processing of insurance requests. If you need a certificate more quickly, it is usually possible, just contact us.
- All certificates will be emailed unless you specifically request otherwise.
- The cost is $65. "Additional insureds" no longer require an extra fee.
- You MUST be a CDSS member in good standing to access this coverage.
FAQs
How does it work?
CDSS has a single, group policy that Affiliates and callers may join, and provides general liability insurance for those Affiliates and callers. The limits on the policy have been calculated to provide enough coverage for all covered groups and people.
What does the policy cover?
The CDSS policy is a general liability insurance policy. This means to file a claim, someone must sue you and prove your negligence, at which point you can file a claim for reimbursement, which will be reviewed by the insurance underwriter. In addition to the $4,000,000 aggregate, $2,000,000 per-occurrence limits on liability coverage, the following is included:
- $100,000 Rented To You Limit (Any One Premises)
- $5,000 Medical Expense Limit (Any One Person)
Do I need insurance?
Many venues require you to have insurance before renting or holding events in their space. The CDSS policy meets and exceeds the minimum coverage amounts required by most venues. Further, having insurance coverage for your calling may offer some peace of mind against potential lawsuit.
Are COVID-related claims covered?
COVID-related claims are not covered by our policy, nor are we aware of any policy which will cover such claims. Most policies (including ours) contains a virus or other communicable disease exclusions, meaning you cannot file a claim if someone successfully sues you for contracting COVID or another disease at your event.
Are virtual events covered?
Yes! As long as they are essentially the same as other events you would be leading.. As usual, filing a claim would require someone who attended your online event to sue and prove your negligence.
Should I list my venue as Additional Insured?
Only list a venue as Additional Insured if specifically requested by the venue. This is additional coverage for the venue, and is not required unless specifically requested.
Is ____ situation covered?
We cannot offer definitive advice on what hypotheticals will or will not be covered by the policy. Each situation is unique and handled individually. It is helpful to remember that with any general liability policy, you must be sued and proven negligent to submit a claim. Beyond that, speaking to a lawyer or expert in the area is advised when exploring such hypotheticals. Feel free to contact us with questions and we can forward your question to our insurance agent if necessary.
Can we review the policy?
Absolutely! Email ben@cdss.org and we’ll be happy to provide a copy of the policy for your review.
