Paris, Aug. 16 . . . Some days ago the King saw at
Versailles, a clock lately brought into France by some
Englishmen. This made like an organ, which shews all the
various motions of the country, as wind-mills, water-mills,
carts passing to and fro, &c. There are also the nine
muses, and Orpheus beating time with an admirable exactness,
while the organ plays several airs to perfection, and the
spectators hear the notes of a whole choir of birds. In
short, it is a masterpiece in its kind, and gave the King
and Queen and all the court an entire satisfaction. They
have obtained leave to shew this machine throughout the
Kingdom.
