Run away from the subscriber, about the 20th of April last,
a mulatto fellow named Peter Brown, a painter by trade, but
can do carpenter's work; he is 35 or 40 years of age, of a
dark complexion, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slim made, has a
thin visage, several of his upper foreteeth are out, is fond
of singing, which he can do very well; and is a remarkable
fine whistler. The said fellow has several suits of
clothes, therefore I cannot describe his dress. He was some
years past tried for a robbery, but obtained the Governor's
pardon on suffering one year's imprisonment; after which he
was sold to Mr. John Fox, of Gloucester, with whom he lived
one or two years; he then run away, and passed for a free
man in the counties of King William, Caroline, and Hanover,
where he was take up and brought home. As he has a wife at
Mr. Benjamin Hubbard's, it is likely he may be lurking in
that neighbourhood, and as he was raised in Petersburg, it
is very probable he may be about there. Whoever will take
up the said runaway, and deliver him to me, at Osborne's,
shall receive forty shillings reward. [signed] Peterfield
