London, December 8. . . Friday came on, before Lord
Mansfield, in the court of King's Bench, Westminster Hall,
an action brought against one Mr. Barry, a well-known actor
in Drury Lane playhouse, to recover a sum of money for two
hunting saddles, bought, unknown to him, for the use of his
wife. Mr. George Garrick being called to prove the salary
he received at the playhouse, said it was four pounds a
week, but that the actor did not take any of his wife's
money since their separation; on which Lord Mansfield
declared that he had no right to pay for the saddles, as
being unnecessary things, had without his knowledge. . .
