Index Entry | Opera singers, in London, complaint over high salaries |
Location | London |
Citation | VGW(PU.775.010 3 Mar 1775:23 (5) London, Dec. 14. A gentleman was exclaiming lately against the very high salaries given to the opera singers. A good voice, says he, stands the manager in at least 2000 L. a year, and under a three year contract. What is that, cries another gentleman, to the salaries given at the opera house, near Westminster Hall, where the manager often pays double the sum for a first rate voice, and is under a contract for seven years! |
