The gentlemen of Hanover county, being desirous of following
the example of Williamsburg, Norfolk, Suffolk, and other
places, in expressing their joy and loyalty, on occasion of
the defeat of the Rebels in Scotland, voluntarily raised a
sum of money, for making a publick entertainment; which was
appointed to be at Newcastle, yesterday was se'nnight: 
Accordingly, that day, a great number of gentlemen and
ladies, . . . met at the house of Mr. Waters; . . . [12
lines, dinner outside, healths, punch to the populace, small
arms, bonfire.]  The ladies were entertained with dancing;
and the evening concluded with the utmost demonstrations of
loyalty . . .
