On Tuesday night last, Mr. Handel had an oratorio for his
benefit, at the opera-house in the Hay-Market; their Royal
Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales were present;
there was the greatest and most polite audience ever seen
there; and 'tis thought Mr. Handel could not get less that
night than 1500 l. It's imagin'd there will be no more
operas after this season, and the Italian Strowlers will be
sent home; for now, the people of quality seem to prefer
sense, to sound and nonsense.
