AN ODE
In imitation of one written in the year 1759, by Alexander
Martin, Esq; of North Carolina.
1.
Free states, attend the song,
Now independent on
The British throne:
To earth's remotest bound
Echoing skies resound
The sweet melodious sound--
Liberty's our own.
. . . [7 more verses, set to tune of God Save the King as
evident from later verses, signed] W. P. Buckingham,
August 1776.
