Birmingham, August 12. On Monday night twelve of the most
respectable gentlemen of Litchfield, invited by the
pleasantness of the evening, agreed to spend it in the
College yard. A very genteel table was spread, and each
gentleman furnished it with a dish from his own house. What
made the repast more agreeable, the Cathedral doors were
thrown open, and the company highly entertained with several
pieces on the organ. After supper, some of the most
approved songs, catches, glees, &c. were sung, by three of
the most celebrated performers in England; and as most of
the gentlemen were lovers of and understood musick, the
chorus songs were remarkable full. On the whole, the
gentlemen present declared it was the most joyous evening
they ever spent.
