London. . . August 13. The company at the grand
entertainment at the mansion house, this evening, was very
numerous. Alderman Trecothick's lady did the honours of the
table, as lady mayoress. There were only seven of the court
of alderman present, namely, Aldermen Kite, Trecothick,
Esdaile, Nash, Shakespear, Peers, and Wilkes. In the piece
of confectionary was a representation of the tower. The
gentlemen and ladies invited to the ball were admitted from
eight o'clock in the evening till ten. The Egyptian hall
not being sufficiently large to contain commodiously all the
company, several private rooms were illuminated in the
evening, and provided with musick, and refreshments of
various kind, for part of the company. The ball was opened
by Mr. Alderman Shakespear and Lady Trecothick.
