the next stage of his existence he may be degraded into a
monkey? To the fine lady, who is now slated with the
triumphs of her youth and beauty, and who shines with
distinguished splendour at an assembly, to be conscious to
herself that she must hereafter display the gaudy colours of
a butterfly? . . .
