Dublin . . . April 19. Yesterday evening the Countess of
Moira gave the grandest ball that ever was known in the
Kingdom of Ireland, or perhaps in Europe, for richness and
variety of dresses, and all of the manufactures of this
Kingdom, by which many thousands of poor people have had
employment. Some of the poplins were gold and black
striped, and others silver, flowers &c. which were greatly
superiour in show to any silks ever imported from China,
Persia, India, or any other country. The variety of shapes
and dresses cannot be described; the ribands, gauzes, laces,
and flourishing work, exceeded all imagination. The blaze
of jewels and diamonds worn by both sexes made the most
glittering figure, and could not be equalled by any lustre,
except the brilliancy and beauty of the ladies. There were
600 nobility and gentry present on this occasion, and the
supper after the ball the most elegant ever known before in
the Kingdom.
