Extract of a letter from Calcutta, Jan. 24. I will now
endeavour to give you some of the occurrances of Bengal.
Lord Clive has done great things, and caused great
revolutions. . . On the 14th of December 1765 was a battle
with a buffalo and a tiger. . . at night there was a play;
the next day a grand dinner, a supper, and fireworks, much
more elegant than any I ever beheld in England; and the
whole concluded with a ball.
