Norfolk, August 7. This day the Bobby, Capt. Cook, from St.
Christophers, anchored in Elizabeth River; in whom we hear,
there is arrived (to be exhibited to public view in this
town) that inimitable Piece of Mechanism, The Microcosm, or
The World in Miniature; made by that late ingenious artist,
Henry Bridges of London; where it is so well known for the
magnificence of its structure, the beauty of its painting
and sculpture, the excellency of its music, with just
proportion of the Caelestial Phaenomena, and the variety of
moving figures, as to be esteemed a superlative piece of
clock-work, and has been the admiration and topic of
discourse for these twelve months past in the West-Indies,
and ought to be seen by all degrees of people, as it is the
most instructive and entertaining piece that ever yet
appeared.
N.B. It was for this Machine the late Prince of Wales
offered the author 3000 guineas and L.200 per annum during
his life.
* * * We further hear, it will be shown at Williamsburg
during the October court.
