Edinburgh, Oct. 11. The merchants of this city have agreed
that the inner or paved part of the parliament close, around
the statue, shall, for the future, be the exchange, or place
of meeting for transacting business at one o'clock; and
having applied to the Lord Provost, magistrates and council,
for their approbation, and for their order that the musick
bells shall begin to ring half an hour after twelve and
continue 'til half an hour after one o'clock; yesterday the
Lord Provost, magistrates and council did approve thereof,
and have ordered the musick bells to begin and continue to
ring as above, during the council's pleasure; and declared
they would give all due encouragement to what the merchants
have agreed to.
