London. It is said, that on the Lord Chamberlain's
officially announcing the commemoration of the Queen's birth
day, and that the peeresses who intended to dance minutes
were desired to send their names, in writing to his office,
in order that the proper tickets might be made out according
to their rank, the Dutchess of Cumberland declared her
intention of writing to the Lord Chamberlain, that she
proposed to dance a minuet at court on that day. The
declaration got wind; the court was alarmed at the
consequence; precedence of all the peeresses, or a public
interdiction, must have followed; it is said, however, that
intercession was made that her Royal highness would for the
present, wave her intentions, as it might possibly be the
means of facilitating the restoration of Royal favour, which
the Dutchess of Cumberland, was so very anxious of
obtaining.
