London, May 9.  Yesterday morning the crown was privately
sent for from the Tower to the House of Lords. At the same
time the Lord-Mayor received a letter from a member of
parliament, that the House would rise that day; . . . 
Twenty-one pieces of cannon were fired by the Artillery
company, with music playing, drums beating, and colours
flying.

The bells upon this occasion rang throughout London, and a
general joy prevailed; . . .
