They write from Mentz, in German, that on the 23d of last
month, at night, there was a great storm.  The cathedral was
set on fire by the lightening, the roof and part of the
tower were burnt, and the bells were melted.  The inside of
the church also suffered considerably, and the expense of
the repairs will amount to two millions of florins.
