A most extraordinary affair lately happened at Cork; One
Patrick Redman having been condemned to be hanged for a
street robbery, and interest in vain used to procure him a
reprieve with the judge, a gentleman of fortune laid a
considerable wager, that the man should be saved
notwithstanding, provided no hint of his bet was made
public, until the fellow was cut down. The man was
accordingly executed, and hung upwards of twenty-eight
minutes, when the mob carried off the body to the place
appointed, when he was, after five or six hours, actually
brought to life by Glover the actor, who, it seems, is also
a dexterous surgeon, and who made an incision in his wind-
pipe, called by the medical tribe bronchotomy, which
produced the desired effect. The poor fellow has since
received his pardon, and a genteel collection has been made
for him.
