Extract of a letter from Petersburgh, July 2. Immediately
after the conclusion of the grand and sumptious carousal,
executed on the 27th of last month, under the direction of
Prince Iwanowitz Repnin, in the presence of the Empress, the
great Duke, and the whole court, with upwards of 4000 other
persons; the great judge of the exercises and the subalterns
quitted the amphitheatre, erected opposite the palace,
returned to the summer palace, and repaired to the Hall of
Conference, in order to adjudge the prizes of the courses.
At the same time the quadrilles, to the number of four,
united and marched along the principal streets of the city
to the great staircase of the palace. They were introduced
into the hall by the grand master of the ceremonies, each to
the sound of their respective musick. The knights and
ladies being ranged there in a semi-circle, the Field-
Marshal Count Munich, great judge of the exercises,
accompanied with twelve other judges, and attended by the
pages of the court, who bore the prizes on vessels of gold,
presented himself in armour, in the Hall of Conference. . .
[1/2 column more of pompous ceremony.]
