Williamsburg, (in Virginia) . . . July 4. . . At Newtown, in
Princess-Anne county, on Thursday the 26th of June, the
principal gentlemen, moved by a due sense of loyalty and
gratitude to the best of monarchs, . . . celebrated their
joy on the happy repeal of the Stamp-act, by repairing to
the Rising Sun Tavern, where an elegant entertainment was
provided. . . [10 lines, toasts] The evening concluded with
an elegant ball, at which were present a numerous company of
ladies and gentlemen, who made a genteel appearance, and in
every face appeared demonstrations of loyalty, and joy, on
the happy occasion.
