[Article discussing several capital improvements made to the
community, such as canals, bridges, and wharves]
Within the same short period, we have the pleasure to
observe, that several excellent academies have been
established for the education of the youth of this province,
who are very numerous; and that great attention is also paid
to the fine arts, -- the St. Coecilia Society having warmly
patronized Music; while many gentlemen of taste and fortune,
are giving the utmost encouragement to Architecture,
Portrait-Painting, and the ingenious performances of the
first capital Landscape-Painter that has visited America,
whose works do him honour.---
