London, May 20. By the Holland mail, which arrived late on
Monday night, we have the following particulars of a
dreadful fire, which happened at the Theatre, dated
Amsterdam, May 13. The day before yesterday, at half past
eight in the evening, this city was suddenly thrown into
consternation. The Flemish company performed two operas at
the Dutch Theatre. They were performing the Second, The
Deserter, and were near the end of the piece, when it was
discovered that one of the lamps on the right, at the bottom
of the Theatre, had set fire to a rope that ran along the
wing of a flat scene.
