. . . [4 paragraphs on the rumored death and recovery of the
Duke of Gloucester and the Princess Dowager]
7. Garrick plays tonight-- and in Hamlet too!-- away, John,
(cries Lady Bab) and take places in the boxes-- Oh thou
sweet little fellow of a tragedian, I must see thee murdered
once more. "Every place taken a month ago." Unlucky! When
does he play again? "On Friday." Fly to the box-keeper.
"Every place taken a month ago." Distraction! When does he
play again?-- "On Monday."--Like lightning, away. "Every
place taken a month ago."-- Heavens! my stars! horrors! and
confusion!-- Damnation! (cries another disappointed one)
David, this is not well done. David, there is foul play
here-- David, look about thee.
