New-York, July 20. From Elizabeth-Town we have certain
intelligence, that some of the officers of the 28th
regiment, quartered lately at that place, having been fined
for a debt, had conceived a pique against the under sheriff
of that borough, and being to embark at Amboy on Tuesday,
some of them having first raised their spirits with strong
drink the evening before, serenaded the town with their drum
and fife, 'till near midnight.
. . . [Riot and attack on townspeople]
