Minorca[?] in Courland, Jan. 23.  Yesterday Duke Ernestus-
John de Biron made his public entry here. The magistrates
and the guard of Burghers refused to assist at this
ceremony, or to take the oath to him, till they were
compelled to do it by the Russian troops in the town, who,
to strike the greater terror, rung the tocsin or alarm bell.

. . . The Russian soldiers were also obliged to stand over
the ringers, otherwise the bells would have been silent on
this occasion. . .
