London, December 2. . . [letters from Lisbon, containing
news]
That a grand ball was given there by the English factors on
the 10th of last month, being the birth-day of the late
majesty (the news of his death not arriving till two days
after)-- A great many of the Portuguese nobility were
present, and the ball was opened by Conde de Oeiras the
Portuguese prime minister's son, and Mrs. Hay, lady to the
English ambassador. The court of Portugal was pleased to
dispense with the mourning on account of the late Queen of
Spain for that day.
