John Gordon (who keeps Ashley Ferry, and at whose house
gentlemen and ladies may depend on the best entertainment,
and good usage) hereby gives notice, that the fair will be
opened at the said ferry on the second Tuesday in May next,
when a very neat saddle and furniture, a pair silver spurs,
and a handsome piece of useful plate will be put up, to be
run for, a very neat silver mounted fowling piece, to be
shot for, a pair of silver mounted pistols to be raffled
for, a gold lac'd hat to be cudgelled for, a role of tobacco
and 3 gross of pipes, to be grinn'd for by old women, a pig
soap'd all over to be the property of the person that
catches and hold it by the tail, &c.  There will also be
exhibited, a Scaramouch-Dance, precisely at 3 o'clock, by a
person from London, the Cat and the Barrel, with the
Diversion of the Goose, &c. &c. &c.
