Louisbourg, June 22, 1745.  Sunday the 17th of June the
signal was made for the line of battle.  Just as we were
going into the harbour to attack it, the French sent out a
flag of truce to Mr. Warren to tell him, that they would
give up the town to him, if he would suffer them to carry
out their cannon and effect, with drums beating and colours
flying; he told them that if they did not leave it to his
own discretion, he would be in next morning, and put every
soul to death: . . .
