London. . . Sept. 9. Certain arch travellers, lately
arrived from Holland, divert themselves and their company
with giving out that our good friends and allies the Dutch,
(ever as wity as they are able on the misfortunes of their
neighbours) have lately set forth a print of a certain
harbour long celebrated in story, crouded with ships
innumerable; understood to lye wind-bound, by a high sea
rolling full into the bay; and, in the sight of the
Sovereign flag, a merchant-ship is represented striking to
the enemy: And on a point of land, stretching out from one
corner of the piece, a person dress'd in black with a ruff
about his neck; somewhat resembling a Scaramouch: Another
bulky figure, not unlike the facetious Mr. Punch. And a
third yet more fantastic than the other two, with wings, and
bloated cheeks, as Winds are usually painted, are seen
dancing the hay, like Mr. Bayes's Sun and Moon and Earth in
the Rehearsal: To the musick of the satyr's pipe, round
which, in a scrole, appear the following words in capitals,
The New Confederacy.
