Mr. Lewis Vidal, who had the honour of being for a
considerable time first player on the French horn in the
Court of Portugal, takes the liberty of informing the
publick that he has taken a house in this town and will
undertake to teach any ladies or gentlemen who choose to
honour him with their commands to sing with propriety. He
likewise proposes to teach on several instruments in the
Italian taste, such as the madoline, psaltery, English and
French guitars; instruments well adapted for the use of the
ladies. As he is a stranger to the English language he
cannot have an opportunity of saying much in his own favour,
but on a fair trial of his abilities he is in hopes that he
will give general satisfaction. He is sorry that he must
acknowledge his ignorance in this respect, but it is a
disadvantage that will wear off in time. At present, if any
that are willing to be taught by him have a competent
knowledge of either the French or Italian languages he would
humbly beg their compassion and assistance. He teaches to
accompany the guitar with the voice after the method of M.
Merchi, a method that is perfectly harmonious; and in every
branch he hopes that he will give as much satisfaction here
as he has done in other places. His house is near the White
Meeting, where at any time he will be happy to receive the
commands of his friends.
