London, March 10. At the assizes at Chelmsford, which ended
the 4th inst. there was a very great and polite company.
The present sheriff made a most superb figure; his javelin
men, (twenty-four in number) were cloathed in coats and
waistcoats the same as his own servants, (white lined with
green) and each one had a silver laced hat. An exceeding
good band of musick from London attended the judge in his
passage to and from the town hall, and the company each day,
while at dinner, and in the evening; and, in short,
everything was conducted with a splendour becoming the
honour of the high office.
