From the Morning Post, August 17.  Paradox IV.
Proving that Wine, Ale, and all other strong Drinks are
nothing but water.
   . . . [col. 4 discusses ale, beer and cyder in England,
beer in Prussia, mead in Russia, sherbet in Turkey, lampoy
in Phillippines, various African drinks, Mobbi in Barbadoes,
wine in Mediterranean countries; col. 4 discusses wine as
nothing but water improved.
The 4th full paragraph has musical connotations]
  The honest companions for this water-drinking are the
Greeks and the Germans, but the Greek is the merrier of the
two, for he will sing and dance, and kiss his next
companion.  The Greek will drink as many glasses as there
are letters in his mistress's name;  the German will drink
the number of his years, and tho' he be not apt to break out
into singing, being not of so airy a constitution, yet he
will drink often musically a health to each of those six
notes, ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la;  which, with his reasons for
drinking them, are all comprehended in this hexameter:  Ut 
RElevet, MIserum  FAtum, SOLitosque LAbores . . . [20 more

    _____The lusty bull singles his female out,
    Enjoys her, and abandons her at will:
    But man--------------Caetera Desunt.
