French, Fencing, and Dancing. Academy.
The subscribers, perfectly acquainted with most parts of
the extensive branches of trade, having, themselves, carried
on a vast commerce, in several parts of the West-Indies in
both the French and English islands, beg leave to acquaint
the public that they intend to set up a school, where book
keeping by double entry, and arithmetic, in all its parts,
such as rules of Company, &c. will be taught in the clearest
and completest manner.
They also teach the French language, after a plain and
easy method, never before practiced; so that scholars of
the least aptitude, in the course of six months, may be
sufficiently acquainted with the rudiments of the language,
pronounce and write it with delicacy and propriety. They
likewise teach navigation, after the French method.
They intend to to open an Academy for Dancing and Fencing,
where ladies and gentlemen (each in their departments) who
have not perfected themselves in those agreeable
accomplishments, may be taught in such a manner, as to add
grace and beauty to the deportment of either sex, in the
genteelest characters in life.
Such gentlemen and ladies, as shall please to encourage
them, may depend on their utmost care and assidity in those
important parts of the education of their children, as they
will make it their constant study to give general
satisfaction.
Mornings and evenings they may be spoke with at Mr. John
Myford's, in Little Dock-Street, between the Exchange and
Coenties Market.
They teach at home and abroad.
Du Poke and De St. Pry.
**If there is any gentleman in town acquainted with the art
of fencing, they are desired to call at Mr. Myford's.
N.B. The aforesaid Du Poke, teaches French jigs, hornpipes,
cottillons, German dances, and French country dances of all
kinds, in the most approved and modern taste.
