Liverpool, August 29. Early on Wednesday morning last we
received by express, the Gazette extraordinary, published in
London on Monday evening, containing the account of General
Burgoyne and his brave forces having taken the fortress of
Ticonderoga from the provincials. . . And in celebration of
this glorious event colours were displayed on the public
buildings and on the ships in the docks and harbour. The
bells rang. . . In the evening, sky rockets and other
fireworks were exhibited.
