London, May 4. Advice is received from Carrickfergus in
Ireland, that the crew of the Dutch privateer attempted to
land there early in the morning of the 10th instant, which
was no sooner perceived by the inhabitants than the drum
beat to arms, the people assembled, and the few troops that
were there, and lined the shore, which struck such a pannick
on the Dutch that they got on board their vessel as fast as
possible, and took care to lie out of the reach of the few
guns of the battery: an express was immediately sent to
Londonderry, that if any armed vessels were lying there that
they might go in quest of them.
