French academy. P. La Borde has the honor of informing the
public that he has opened his school for the French language
in Walnut-Street, between Front and Second-Streets.
He intends to open a dancing-school, in that large room,
situate behind the White Horse in Chesnut-Street, (which
shall be commodiously repaired with a stair case, so as to
enter from Market-Street) on the 29th of September next, to
be continued until the first of April following.
The dancing school will be managed by P. Poponnot, who had
the honor of dancing on the theatre of the grand opera at
Paris, and lately on the stage of the Hay-market, London.
Mistress Poponot, a native of Philadelphia, will pay strict
attention to the young ladies who may favor the school with
their presence. If a number, and less than eight, of young
ladies choose to be taught at their own houses, by
addressing a line of said P. La Borde, in Walnut-Street,
they shall be punctually waited on.
N.B. Ladies and gentlemen having learned in other dancing
schools, shall be free from entrance.
