Annapolis, July 11. Tuesday the 25th of June, being the day
appointed by proclamation for the celebration in this state
of the birth of a dauphin of France, a very large and
respectable company of ladies and gentlemen assembled at
Lower Marlborough, where a handsome entertainment was
provided. . . .
The day was spent in perfect mirth; the entertainment,
which was in a pleasant grove, well adapted for the purpose,
concluded with a dance on the green of 13 couples of the
younger ladies and gentlemen, and the joy expressed in every
countenance clearly shewed, that the company were happy in
an opportunity of testifying publicly the esteem which they
bear his most Christian majesty and the royal family of
France . . .
