To the public. Bontamps Fartier, fencing-master, proposes
on Friday, being the third of November next, to open his
fencing room, where he will be glad that all the
connoisseurs in that science, who may have leisure and
inclination, would be pleased to honour him with their
presence, and in particular Mr. Martin Foy, profess'd
fencing, dancing and music-master. His invitation to Mr.
Foy, is not from any picque or malice, but from a generous
emulation and a desire to convince the public, that the
aspersions, propagated by Mr. Foy's partizans, to the great
disadvantage of Mr. Bontamps and family are unmerited as
they are false and injurious.
N.B. Some of Mr. Bontamp's friends, from a confidence in
his skill, are desirous of making a small wager of fifty
dollars against Mr. Foy: Should the wager be accepted, Mr.
Foy, for the better avoiding all disputes, that may happen
in the course of their play, is requested to furnish himself
with a white waistcoat, that the hitts (the end of the foils
being dipp'd in ink) may be more easily discovered. October
26.
