As you have favoured the public with what can be said in
defence of the stage plays, if you think proper to allow the
following piece a place in your next paper, it will give
your readers an undeniable instance of the impartiality of
your publications. It is taken from a treatise which was
written some years ago, by an author of character, and well
acquainted with his subject: Perhaps it will be needless to
observe, that the present state of the stage is here
principally understood, that is, it is treated in those
