To Lieutenant Field Marshal Ghilani. Old Brisac, Aug. 6.
In obedience to the orders of his royal highness Prince
Charles of Lorrain, I passed the Rhine very happily about
ten last night, in the face of the enemy, with about 130
men. . . . Arriving at the bridge with 60 men, I there
found a captain with his troop . . . The rest took shelter
in a mill, where we burnt them, horses and all. I have,
besides, burnt two other mills, and a whole village. . . .
On this occasion I have taken a standard, and a rich
trumpeter's coat which I must desire you to send Prince
Charles. I am &c. [signed] Trenck.
