London, June 25. The following is a letter from an officer
in the army at Hanau, to his friend in London, giving
account of the battle between the English and French armies.
. . .
Upon the receipt of the Lord Carteret's letter, the lords
of the regency immediately met at the cockpit, Whitehall, at
three the guns in the park and at the tower were fired, and
the evening concluded with ringing of bells, bonfires, and
all possible demonstrations of joy.
