Extract of a letter from Albany, July 2. We have been very
unexpectedly honored with a visit from the Commander in
Chief; his excellency Governor Clinton accompanied him . . .
[to] Schenectady; 5 miles from which he was received by 60
of the principal inhabitants on horseback, who attended him
into the town amidst the ringing of bells, firing of cannon,
and every other possible demonstration of felicity.
