Quebec, December 6. Friday last, the 30th of November,
being the Festival of St. Andrew, patron saint of Scotland,
and its most ancient order the thistle; the gentlemen of
North-Briton, as well in civil and military employments as
mercantile, gave unitedly a ball and entertainment in honor
of the day; at which were present his excellency the
governor, also the chief justice and his lady, Colonel
Erving and his lady: Every person and family in the city
and neighborhood, of suitable rank, as well of his majesty's
new subjects as old, was invited: All was conducted with
great propriety and decorum; the company universally
cheerful, and concluded with the harmony it had begun and
was carried on.
