From Caln in Wiltshire, we hear, that on Friday the 31st of
December, there came a lay brother, of the Methodist sect,
to a little village about three miles distant from thence,
and stopping at an ale-house to refresh, to the landlady of
which he carried recommendations from the select. He was
well entertained at supper, bed, and breakfast the next
morning; after which, having comforted the good couple with
his prayers and blessings, and they had joined in a hymn
together . . . [he was accused and acquitted of thievery.]
