Academy in Second-street, near Walnut-street, Philadelphia,
January 8, 1767. Mr. Garner, from frequent solicitations,
and a readiness to contribute, as much as in his power, to
alleviate the deep distresses of many indigent families and
prisoners in this city, many of whom the inclemency of the
season, and want of the common means of supporting life,
have reduced to unutterable calamities, proposes to have
four public evenings for the benefit of those indigent
persons, viz. on Thursday the 15th, Tuesday the 20th,
Thursday the 22nd, and Tuesday the 27th instant.
---On these evenings will be exhibited the celebrated
Lecture on Heads, several orations by the students of this
Academy, and a concert of vocal and instrumental music, by
some gentlemen, whose benevolence leads them to offer
themselves upon this occasion. The distribution of these
collections will be by Mr Andrew Bankson's, Mr. Fleeson's,
at the London Coffee House, and at the above Academy.
N.B. On Sunday evening, the 11th inst. will be read, a
discourse on this charitable motive, and two celebrated
anthems performed vocally and instrumentally. There will be
a collection made for the more immediate relief of the poor;
and tickets for said evening delivered gratis, at the
Academy only.
