New York, May 26. . . [8 lines on the repealing of the
Stamp Act] On Tuesday last we were favoured with the
authenticated, glorious and interesting news of the repeal,
from different quarters, which was instantly spread
throughout the city, diffusing joy and gladness in every
face; whereupon, all the bells of the different churches
were rung, and the next day there was a manifestation of the
greatest gratitude shewn by the true sons of Liberty [21
lines, celebration] After which repairing to the Field of
Liberty, a royal salute of 21 cannon was fired, and that
succeeded by a considerable body of the Sons of Liberty,
collecting at their usual house of publick reform, where an
elegant entertainment was prepared, attended with a band of
musick, and when they had dined, a number of loyal and
constitutional toasts were cheerfully drank.
