Christ Church School-House, April 27, 1766. This evening
will be continued the lecture upon Heads and further notice
is given, that the school is now opened for the reception of
young ladies, desirous of becoming proficient in the very
essential and necessary embellishments of reading, writing
and speaking the English grammatically; . . . [3 lines]
The public are requested to take notice, that on Tuesday,
the 22nd instant, will be opened at said school, by
Messieurs Caruthers and Hoffmann, a singing-school, on a new
plan; where will be taught psalmody, in its different
applications to anthems, &c, in a most elegant and effectual
manner. Scholars will have the great advantage of having
same of the most masterly pieces, now made use of in
England, laid before them, and rendered as explicit as
possible. Mr. Garner having lately imported from London on
a quantity of music , now in use amongst the most celebrated
choirs in England, is willing to compliment such gentlemen,
ladies and children therewith, as choose to become pupils,
by giving them into the hands of the above gentlemen. The
different voices will be taught through the whole, and the
terms as moderate as possible. For further particulars,
they are referred to said school.
