Philadelphia, December 18, 1758. Run away, on the 24th of
October last, from William Scott, of this city, a servant
man, named William Stogdell, by trade a taylor, a lusty well
set fellow, between 30 and 40 years of age, has a full
round face, with a large bushy head of yellow coloured hair,
growing very low towards his eyebrows; he was born in
Yorkshire, in England, and speaks much the language of that
country; came over from Derry this fall with Captain
Hamilton, in the ship City of Derry. Had on when he went
away, a brown pea jacket, with small turn-up cuffs, a
flannel under jacket, with the stripes across, blue serge
breeches, new shoes, and a new felt hat, but probably he may
change his apparel, and cut off his hair. He is a
remarkable fellow, and has not a very good look, he neither
looks like a taylor, soldier nor sailor, being a clumsy, big
fellow, and may be known by his tongue. He takes snuff, and
has the picture of a buck on the lid of his box. He was
seen going down towards Maryland with another man, supposed
to be his shipmate, and it is thought he is gone back
towards Maryland or Virginia. Whoever takes up and secures
said servant, or brings him home to his master, shall have
three pounds reward, and reasonable charges, paid by

N.B. He has been on board a man of war, and can play a
little on the fiddle.
